South Asian Poetry

One of my favorite South Asian poets is Kabir. In fact, I gave my son the middle name of Kabir, so he would always have this connection to his heritage and the philosophy of Kabir.

For over 500 years, Kabir’s poems have been sung and recited throughout North India, by the educated and illiterate.

“He is famed for his rough and powerful voice, his uncompromising challenge to individuals to shake off their delusions, their stiff orthodoxies and pretentious pieties, and to find out the truth for themselves.” – The Bijak of Kabir
